This week we’re talking about hair salons employing versus renting chair space for self employed hairstylists. Joining me today for this hot – and sometimes controversial – topic is Karoliina Saunders, owner of Karoliina Saunders Hair Design in the market town of Highworth on the edge of the Cotswolds, UK.

Like so many of my guests, I first got to know Karoliina when she rocked up to perform at a HairClubLive #OpenChairNight in 2015. I now regard her as a good industry friend and someone that I greatly admire for all that she stands for in hairdressing. Karoliina prides herself on her education program and is constantly developing her team and encouraging them to involve themselves within the industry. But could she do this if she had a self-employed team of rent -a-chair hairstylists?

Today Karoliina is here to share her experiences on why her salon is employing and not renting chair-space. You’ll hear how she originally had the visions of creating her salon to be a collaborative space for self-employed hairstylists started to crack when the team ethic was not shared by everyone. If you’re weighing up the pros and cons on employing over self-employed for your salon, then this episode has bucket loads of unmissable information for you. Let’s jump to it!
