“NO SEX WE’RE BRITISH” (Weird title, I know). But let me tell you that’s the name to the recent hair collection created by one of the most iconic names from the world of mens hairdressing and barbering, Dale Ted Watkins.

A collection that explores and captures on film people who may express a combination of masculinity and femininity, or neither, in their gender expression. It plays homage to what todays very special guest Dale Ted Watkins sees as the ‘NEW MAN’.

For over 30 years Dale Ted Watkins has spent pushing forward the boundaries of men’s hairdressing in the UK. Cutting the hair of his celebrity clients, styling on fashion campaigns, music videos, magazine shoots and as an educator with Dale’s training company CITYBOY, Dale certainly knows his stuff in mens hairdressing and fashion cultures.

I invited Dale on to the show today to not only get his enigmatic story within the industry, but to also get a deeper understanding into the history of British youth culture through hair and fashion. He explains brilliantly on understanding how hair are the signals to our gang affiliations. For Dale, it’s having this depth of knowledge and curiosity that continues to push his creative boundaries forward. Something we see in his recent “NO SEX WE’RE BRITISH” and ‘Alt Skin’ collections.

As Dale says about “NO SEX WE’RE BRITISH” collection, “There was “ANOTHER” sex in town and I wanted to explore and capture this on film. The phenomena of Genderqueer or, non-binary. People who may express a combination of masculinity and femininity, or neither, in their gender expression. I wanted “NO SEX WE’RE BRITISH” to feel and reflect this “NEW” open mindedness of a young open minded society.”

This is a genuine Top of the Pod’s banger. Hit play to hear why!
