Are you a young hairdresser who one day dreams of being a salon owner? If you answer yes to this question, then this podcast has your name on it. Our conversation today is with 24 year old salon owner and educator Luke Hawkins and he’s giving us an insight into what life looks like as a young salon owner.

For many hairdressers being a salon owner can be their ultimate career goal. But is it all that it’s cracked up to be?

Theres no denying it is difficult out there right now for salon owners. Staff shortages, cost of living crisis, high rents just to name a few of the growing challenges salon owners face in 2023! All of these on the back of pandemic and lockdowns that left many salons fighting for their sheer survival . So why do so many still want to be a salon owner?

Thats one of the first questions I want to ask Luke in todays episode. Luke will reveal his experiences, including how his salon had to cope with the pandemic lockdown during it’s very early days of opening.

As we go deeper into the podcast we also get to hear why Luke is happy to describe himself as a non-award winning hairdresser. He has some big opinions on this that you may or may not agree with. And being an educator too, specialising in teaching commercial haircuts, I just had to learn more on why the hair industry needs more educators like Luke. Its a conversation I know you’ll enjoy!
